  3. Configuring a VoIP handset for use with your 2ndNumber

Your 2ndNumber account is compatible with a wide range of physical SIP compatible handsets produced by the major manufacturers such as:

  • Snom
  • Grandstream
  • Yealink
  • Fanvil

To configure your VoIP handset, follow the steps below - note that each phone is different, but the steps below should point you in the right direction. These steps are for the Fanvil X3 range of phones, but many others are based on the same software so the process is largely the same:

1. Press the “OK” button twice on the phone, located on the right of the handset between 4 arrows. Make a note of the WAN IP address on your phone's screen

2. Type the WAN IP address: (it will look something like 192.168_______) in the address bar of your browser on your computer

3. Log into the handset using admin and admin for username and password respectively when prompted

4. On your left you will see VOIP (or LINE) - click that section and type the phone number as supplied by your  support agent in both the 'Authentication User' and 'SIP User' boxes. This is normally your 2ndNumber eg. 13155055303

5. In the 'Server address' box, type call.2ndnumber.tel and the password in the 'Authentication Password' box.

NOTE: The password used here is NOT the same as your 2ndNumber login password. Do email support@2ndnumber.tel to request the password. The password will look something like this:
6be7887056af9748b49774b097404a06483de507

6. Tick the 'Enable Registration' tickbox and then press the Apply button

7. Click the 'Return' link and then click the 'Advanced SIP Settings' link on the page we were on a moment ago

8. Find the setting called 'Transport Protocol' and set this to TCP

9. Find the setting called 'Local Port' and change it from 5060 to 5078. ------IMPORTANT------- There are SEVERAL options with 5060 as their value. Make sure you don't edit any of those

10. Click Apply

11. Click PHONE on the left and then for 'Tone Standard' select 'United Kingdom' or 'United States' accordingly

12. If you need to set the correct time zone, click NETWORK -> TIME&DATE and set 'Timezone' to GMT London for UK or you local zone if USA. Click Apply and then click Return. Finally, tick the 'Daylight Savings' enable tickbox and set the 'Week' for both months to: 'Last' for United Kingdom users

13. Click Apply
